It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Super Diaper Baby!

SUPER DIAPER BABY 2: THE INVASION OF THE POTTY SNATCHERS by Dav Pilkey(Scholastic 2011) features those mischievous kids from the Captain Underpants books, George and Harold, and their creation, Super Diaper Baby. As this story opens, George and Harold are being berated by their principal for writing a book all about Super Diaper Baby and a villain which is a giant piece of poop. George and Harold decide it is time for a new adventure and so create Dr. Dinkle who ends up as a giant ball of urine (don't ask). With a spot-on parody of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, Dr. Dinkle steals the toilets of the town. It is up to Super Diaper Baby and his sidekick, Diaper Dog, to save the dog. Puns, jokes, pee: all the ingredients for a fabulously funny book. <549>

  3. I have only one copy of this book in my library and I can't keep it on the shelf. I agree with Keely that it is a great book for the reluctant boy reader. It is funny and irreverent.

  6. My son was a reluctant reader until he found the Captain Underpants series. He is now in 5th grade but couldn't wait for this addition to the family to be released! Interning in the library, I see this (and all of the Pilkey books) in constant circulation!

The students really enjoy reading Dav Pilkey's books. Reluctant readers tend to check these books out more often. They enjoy the illustrations and the books themselves. This would be a great addition to the series.

  10. Dav Pilkey books cause riots in my classroom! The children love them and are always passing them around. School policy allows only two students from the same classroom in the library at a time. The children make a plan of action so that they can have as many of these books in the classroom as possible at a given time. Both girls and boys love them! I have the same scenario with the Baby Mouse series, but it's mostly girls only for this one.

  11. I have all the Captain Underpants books and am definitely putting these on my list to purchase. Many of by boys in 2nd grade love Captain Underpants. Keely you are right, it is books like these that you cherish because it is what goes those reluctant readers to want to read even more. I have heard of libraries that have banned these books because of the content, but honestly they should be happy that there is something like this out there! Shame on them!
